No idea if this is true or not, but I recall reading an interview with the Australian synth-rock legend Cybotron, where the story of the "Sunday Night At The Total Theatre" ‎album was told. Apparently, although quite active on the local live front, Cybotron were having no luck in getting a record contract or distribution. So, after having a gig broadcast on the radio they thought "let's issue it as a limited LP - and present it like a bootleg - maybe then we'll be seen as important!" Must have worked, as soon after they got a studio LP released that was also issued in France! Well, that's the myth, the rest is history.
